His Early Life and Musical Family
Jeremiah Jae was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 7, 1989. His dad, Robert Irving III, is a famous jazz musician and composer. Growing up, Jeremiah Jae was always surrounded by music. He learned to play classical piano and guitar. He also taught himself how to play the drums and was part of different bands.
Starting His Music Journey
When Jeremiah Jae was a teenager, he started a music group called Young Black Preachers (YBP). He formed it with his god-brothers, Tre Smith and Aaron "Projeck" Butler. They released several EPs, which are like mini-albums. Jeremiah Jae also released his own solo music.
His music, especially his Lunch Special mixes, caught the attention of a well-known producer named Steve Ellison, also known as Flying Lotus. This led Jeremiah Jae to move to Los Angeles in 2007.
Joining Brainfeeder and Releasing Music
After moving to Los Angeles, Jeremiah Jae spent about six months getting to know the music scene there. He met other artists who were part of the Brainfeeder music label. Soon after, he signed with Brainfeeder.
His first project with Brainfeeder was called Rappayamatantra, released in 2011. During this time, he kept working on his Lunch Special series. He also created beats for the Captain Murphy mixtape called Duality.
Jeremiah Jae toured a lot with his fellow artist, Teebs. In 2012, he released his first full album, Raw Money Raps. In 2013, he put out a mixtape called Bad Jokes. This mixtape featured members of the Black Jungle Squad and had music produced by Jeremiah Jae himself, along with Jonwayne, Oliver the 2nd, and Flying Lotus.
