Jerome is a small community in Drew County, Arkansas, in the United States. It used to be an official town. However, in October 2021, the people in charge of Jerome decided it would no longer be an official town. Now, it is known as a census designated place. This means it's a place the government counts for population, but it doesn't have its own town government.
In 2020, only 24 people lived in Jerome.
History of Jerome
During World War II, Jerome was home to a very important place called the Jerome War Relocation Center. This was a camp built to house Japanese Americans who were forced to leave their homes during the war. It operated from 1942 to 1944.
After the war, the camp was changed into a prison camp. It held captured soldiers from Germany.
Where is Jerome?
Jerome is located in the southeastern part of Drew County. You can find it along U.S. Route 165. This road goes north about 10 miles (16 km) to Dermott. It also goes south about 7 miles (11 km) to Montrose.
The United States Census Bureau says Jerome covers a total area of 0.10 square miles (0.26 km2). All of this area is land.
