Jerome Knapp was an important English lawyer and administrator who lived in the 1700s. He was born in 1722 in Walthamstow and passed away in 1792 in Bath.

Jerome Knapp's Life and Career
Jerome Knapp studied law at the Middle Temple, which is one of the four "Inns of Court" in London where lawyers are trained. He became a lawyer, or was "called to the bar," in 1749. This meant he was officially allowed to practice law.
In 1754, he was chosen to be a Clerk for two important groups. One was the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, a historic trade group in London. The other was the Assizes of the Home Circuit, which were courts that traveled around different parts of England. He became the Treasurer of the Middle Temple in 1789. Jerome Knapp died in Bath, Somerset in 1792.
Jerome Knapp's Family
Jerome Knapp was the oldest son of Jerome William Knapp and Sarah Preston. In 1758, he married Sarah Noyes. Her family was also well-known, and her mother was Anne, who inherited land from William Noake.
Jerome and Sarah Knapp had eleven children together. Some of their notable children included:
- Jerome William Knapp, who became a Doctor of Civil Law (DCL).
- Thomas George Knapp, who became a solicitor (another type of lawyer).
- Mary Anne Knapp, who married William Draper Best in 1794. William Draper Best later became the first Lord Wynford in 1829. Their son, William Samuel Best, became the second Lord Wynford.
