Gerald B. Green (April 16, 1939 – April 18, 2018) was an American politician from the Democratic Party. He served in the New Jersey General Assembly for many years. He represented different areas of New Jersey from 1992 until his death in 2018.

Jerry Green's Early Life
Gerald Green was born on April 16, 1939, in Roselle. He went to public high school and was a very good basketball player there. Later, he lived in Plainfield with his wife, Wanda.
A Career in Public Service
Jerry Green started his career in business, working in marketing and real estate. In 1982, he began his first term on the Union County's Board of Chosen Freeholders. This board helps manage the county. He even became the board's leader in 1990.
Serving in the New Jersey Assembly
In 1992, Green was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly. This is a group of lawmakers who create laws for the state of New Jersey. He was a Democrat and first represented the 17th Legislative District.
After some changes to the district maps in 2002, he then represented the 22nd Legislative District. He continued to serve in the Assembly until he passed away in 2018. He was an assemblyman for 26 years!
Important Roles and Achievements
During his time in the Assembly, Jerry Green held several important positions. He was the chairman of the Housing and Local Government Committee. He also served on the Health and Senior Services Committee.
From 2008, he was the Assembly's Speaker Pro Tempore. This means he was a temporary speaker, stepping in when the main speaker was not available.
Green was also a leader for the Democratic Party in Union County. He helped bring the Union County College campus to Plainfield. He also supported a law that made colleges install sprinklers in all dorms to keep students safe.
His Passing
Jerry Green passed away on April 18, 2018. This was just two days after his 79th birthday. Many politicians from both parties shared their sadness about his death. Another politician, Linda Carter, was chosen to take his place in the Assembly.
