Gerald Sheindlin (born November 19, 1933) is an American author, TV star, and former judge. He spent many years as a judge in the New York Supreme Court. He is also well-known for being a judge on the TV show The People's Court.

Jerry Sheindlin's Early Life and Education
Jerry Sheindlin was born on November 19, 1933. He grew up in New York City. After serving in the Army, he went to college. He earned a degree from Long Island University. Later, he studied law at Brooklyn Law School. He finished his law studies in 1959.
Becoming a Judge and Author
After law school, Jerry Sheindlin became a lawyer. He then became a Trial Judge for the New York Supreme Court. This means he heard many cases in court. He helped decide legal disagreements.
Besides being a judge, he also wrote books. He wrote two books about legal topics. One book is called Genetic Fingerprinting: The Law and Science of DNA Evidence. The other book is titled Blood Trail.
From Courtroom to Television
After his time as a judge, Jerry Sheindlin joined a popular TV show. He became a judge on The People's Court. This show lets real people bring their small cases to a TV courtroom. He started on the show in the fall of 1999. He took over from former New York City Mayor Ed Koch.
When he was on The People's Court, he was competing with his wife. His wife, Judy Sheindlin, is also a famous TV judge. She had her own very popular show called Judge Judy. Judge Judy ran for 25 seasons. Jerry Sheindlin was on The People's Court for about two seasons. He left the show in 2001. Another judge named Marilyn Milian then took his place.
Jerry Sheindlin's Family Life
Jerry Sheindlin is married to Judy Sheindlin. She is famous as Judge Judy from her TV show. They first married in 1978. It was the second marriage for both of them. They got divorced in 1990 but then remarried in 1991.
Jerry Sheindlin has three children from his first marriage. Their names are Gregory, Jonathan, and Nicole. He also has two stepchildren, Jamie and Adam Levy. These are Judy Sheindlin's children. Together, Jerry and Judy have 13 grandchildren. They also have one great-grandchild. Some of his children followed in his footsteps. Jonathan is a doctor who specializes in eyes. Greg, Adam, and Nicole all became lawyers.
