Jerry Yan (Chinese: 言承旭; pinyin: Yán Chéngxù), whose birth name is Liao Yangzhen (Chinese: 廖洋震; pinyin: Liào Yángzhèn), is a famous actor, model, and singer from Taiwan. He was once part of the popular boy band F4. Jerry Yan is best known for playing the main character, Daoming Si, in the Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden and its next part, Meteor Garden II.

Jerry Yan was born in Taoyuan, Taiwan. His family background includes both Atayal and Hakka heritage.
Jerry Yan's Career Journey
Jerry Yan started his career as a model in 2000. Before that, he won two modeling contests in 1998: the TVBS Modelling Competition and the Men's UNO modelling competition. He appeared in many advertisements and music videos. In 2000, he began acting with a small role in the TV show Spicy Teacher.
Becoming Famous with Meteor Garden
Jerry became very famous across Asia when he played Daoming Si in the hit Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden and its follow-up, Meteor Garden II. After the show ended, Jerry and the other main actors from Meteor Garden – Vic Chou, Vanness Wu, and Ken Chu – formed a boy band called F4. They released three music albums together.
Solo Music and Film Projects
In 2002, Jerry's TV series Love Scar was very popular, with over 10% of viewers tuning in. In 2004, Jerry released his first solo album, Jerry for You. This album was named one of the "Top 10 Selling Mandarin Albums of the Year" in Hong Kong. He also won "Best Album" and "Best Newcomer" awards in China. That same year, he made his first movie appearance in the Hong Kong romantic comedy Magic Kitchen, starring alongside famous actors Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng.
Acting in Acclaimed Dramas
In 2006, Jerry starred in the highly praised Taiwanese medical drama The Hospital. This show was the first Taiwanese series ever to be shown in Japan by the TV channel NHK. In 2008, Jerry acted in the sports comedy Hot Shot with Wu Chun and Show Lo.
International Success and Awards
In 2009, Jerry starred in Starlit, a TV show made by companies from China, Taiwan, and Japan. This show was sold to 15 different countries and won "Best Overseas Drama" at the Sky Perfect TV Award. Also in 2009, Jerry released his second solo album, Freedom. This album was one of the best-selling albums in Taiwan that year. The Japanese version of the album also did very well on Japan's Oricon Chart. He then held a solo concert in Japan, adding extra shows because so many people wanted to see him. Jerry was the only Taiwanese artist to win "Best International Artist" at the Best Jeanist Awards. He also won "Asia's Most Popular Singer" at the South East Music Chart Awards and "Best Actor" at The Best International Foreign Drama Awards.
Continued Popularity
In 2010, Jerry starred in Down with Love with Ella Chen. Even though some episodes were leaked, the show still became the number one TV show in Taiwan. He then released his third album, My Secret Lover, which included songs from his TV shows The Hospital and Hot Shot. Jerry was named "Most Popular Taiwan Singer in Korea" at the Yahoo! Asia Buzz Awards. He was also listed as one of the "Top 10 Singers" in Singapore and Taiwan.
In 2011, Jerry starred in My Splendid Life, a remake of a popular Korean drama. This series was watched over 100 million times online and was the top-rated show for many weeks. That same year, he won "Best Asian Star" at the Asia Model Awards in Seoul.
Recent Projects
In 2012, Jerry acted in the Taiwanese historical film Ripples of Desire. In 2014, he starred in the romantic drama Loving, Never Forgetting, where he played a single father. He also appeared in the Japanese movie Lupin III: Necklace of Cleopatra, based on a famous manga. In 2015, Jerry had a special role in the popular youth movie Our Times. He also starred in the Chinese TV series My Best Ex-Boyfriend.
More recently, Jerry starred in the romantic comedy Count Your Lucky Stars in 2020 with Shen Yue. In 2021, he joined the TV show Call Me By Fire as a contestant. His latest romantic drama, The Forbidden Flower, came out in 2023, where he starred with Xu Ruohan.
