The Jervis Bay tree frog (Litoria jervisiensis) is a small, fascinating frog that lives in Australia. Even though it's called the Jervis Bay tree frog, it actually does not live in Jervis Bay itself! Instead, you can find these frogs living near the ocean in parts of New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria.

These special frogs have a unique look. They often have bright yellow coloring right where their front legs meet their bodies. This splash of yellow helps them stand out!

Where Do Jervis Bay Tree Frogs Live?

Jervis Bay tree frogs are quite adaptable. They make their homes in different types of places. You might find them living in eucalyptus forests or other kinds of forests. They also like to hang out on plants that grow near streams.

Near the ocean, these frogs can be found on sandy dunes. They also live in lagoons, which are shallow bodies of water near the coast. These different habitats provide them with plenty of places to find food and stay safe.

Life Cycle and Reproduction

Jervis Bay tree frogs have an interesting way of reproducing. Unlike many other frogs in New South Wales, these frogs prefer to lay their eggs during the colder parts of the year. This makes them a bit unusual!

When it's time to lay eggs, the female frog carefully places them on sticks that are underwater. The eggs then develop, and it takes about 12 weeks for the tiny tadpoles to transform into fully grown frogs. This transformation is a big change, as they go from living in water to being able to live on land.
