Jerzy Kossela (born Jerzy Kosela; 15 July 1942 – 7 January 2017) was a Polish guitarist and vocalist. He was a very important founding member of several music groups. These included bands like Electron, Niebiesko-Czarni, Pięciolinie, and the very popular Czerwone Gitary.

Starting Czerwone Gitary

Jerzy Kossela was the first person to start the band Czerwone Gitary. This happened in 1965. He played with the band until 1967. After leaving, he stayed active in Polish music. He performed on stage until 1976. Then, he spent 15 years working as a music presenter.

Returning to the Band

Czerwone Gitary got back together in 1991. Jerzy Kossela rejoined the band. He became their guitarist and singer once more. In 1993, he left the band again. However, by 1999, Kossela had rejoined Czerwone Gitary for a third time.

His Musical Creations

Jerzy Kossela wrote many popular songs. Some of his hits include "Bo ty się boisz myszy." He wrote both the music and lyrics for this song. He also wrote "Historia jednej znajomości" and "Matura." For "Matura," he wrote the lyrics to music by Krzysztof Klenczon.

He also helped write a book. The book was called Czerwone Gitary to właśnie my! It was about the band. On the Czerwone Gitary album Jeszcze raz (One More Time), a song called "Kocham dwie dziewczyny" appeared. This song was actually written way back in 1965. The album came out on 14 March 2015.

Later Years and Passing

From May 2015, Jerzy Kossela stopped performing in concerts. He was still with Czerwone Gitary, but he stopped touring. He said he needed to rest due to health reasons.

Jerzy Kossela was married to Janina Karst. In 2010, he received a special award. It was called the Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis. This award honors people who have done great things for culture.

Jerzy Kossela passed away in Gdynia, Poland. He died on 7 January 2017. He was 74 years old.
