About Jessica Eaton
Jessica Eaton was born in 1977 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. She studied photography at the Emily Carr Institute. There, she earned a special degree in fine arts.
Jessica has shown her amazing photos in many places. Some of her solo shows include "Wild Permutations" in Cleveland, USA, and "Ad Infinitum" in London, UK. Her work has also been part of group shows in the Netherlands, USA, and South Korea.
In 2016, Jessica was nominated for the Sobey Art Award. This is a big award for Canadian artists. Her work has been featured in famous newspapers and magazines like The New York Times and The New Yorker. In 2019, she received a Guggenheim Fellowship. How Jessica Creates Art
Jessica Eaton's photos often focus on the basic parts of photography. These include things like light, color, and how much light the camera lets in (called exposure). By playing with these parts, Jessica explores all the cool things you can do with a camera.
After moving to different cities, Jessica created a very important series of photos. It was called "Cubes for Albers and LeWitt." This series was inspired by artists Josef Albers and Sol LeWitt. They were known for their simple, abstract art.
In this series, Jessica took many pictures of a cube painted in different colors. She did this without moving the film in the camera. This means she layered many shots on top of each other on the same piece of film. Unlike painting, where adding layers can make colors darker, this method made the colors in her photos brighter! In some pictures, she only shot grey cubes. Then, she used different color filters over the camera lens to add color to the film.
