About Jessica Stenson
Jessica Stenson is often called "Jess" or "Trenny." She was born in Naracoorte, South Australia. She went to Naracoorte Primary School and Naracoorte High School. Later, she moved to Adelaide to attend Annesley College.
Jessica studied at the University of South Australia from 2006 to 2009. She earned a degree in Physiotherapy. She also played sports like wrestling from age nine to twenty-one. She played netball for Contax in 2008. She also played basketball for South Australia's state team.
Jessica lives in Adelaide and works as a physiotherapist and pilates instructor. Her brother, Jack Trengove, was a football player. He helped inspire her running career by making sports a fun competition in their family. Her sister, Abbie, also represented their state in wrestling.
Jessica is an ambassador for several charities. These include The Little Heroes Foundation, Jodi Lee Foundation, and Bupa. She is 166 cm (about 5 feet 5 inches) tall and weighs 52 kg (about 115 pounds).
Jessica's Running Career
Jessica Stenson started running when she was in primary school. She ran in cross country events in South Australia. In 2000, she was chosen for the South Australia state cross country team.
Since 2008, her coach has been Adam Didyk. Before that, Roger Pedrick coached her.
Early Races and Olympic Dreams
Jessica won the City to Bay Run in 2010. That same year, she competed in the World Half Marathon Championships in China. She ran her first marathon in March 2012. In this race, she achieved a time of 2 hours and 31 minutes. This time was fast enough to qualify for the Olympics.
In 2012, Jessica trained very hard. She ran up to 160 kilometers (about 100 miles) each week. On her lighter training days, she still ran 12 kilometers (about 7.5 miles). Jessica was chosen to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She finished the Olympic marathon in 39th place. Her time was 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 17 seconds.
Commonwealth Games Success
At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Jessica won a bronze medal. She ran a personal best time of 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 12 seconds. She also competed in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. She finished 22nd in the marathon with a time of 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 44 seconds.
In the 2017 World Championships in Athletics, Jessica finished ninth in the marathon. Her time was 2 hours, 28 minutes, and 59 seconds. This was the best performance by an Australian woman in a World Championship marathon.
Jessica achieved her biggest success at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. She won the gold medal in the marathon.
