Her Journey in Film
Jesse Anthony first studied acting at Vancouver Film School. After that, she decided to focus on making films. She joined the Indigenous Independent Digital Filmmaking Program at Capilano University. For her graduation project, Jesse made a short film. This short film later became the idea for her first big movie.
Award-Winning Films
In 2020, Jesse released her first feature film, Brother, I Cry. This movie was a big success! It helped Jesse win the B.C. Best Emerging Filmmaker Award. Her production company, Pass Through Productions Inc., also released a film called El Color Negro. This film was shown at the 2020 VIFF.
Querencia Web Series
In 2019, Jesse Anthony and Mary Galloway won a special competition. It was the APTN/imagineNATIVE Web Series Pitch Competition. They won for their web series called Querencia. They received more money to make the series even bigger.
Mentoring New Filmmakers
Jesse also helps other new filmmakers. In 2020, she became a mentor for the Indigenous Screen Office (ISO). This program helps new filmmakers learn from experienced ones. Jesse mentored Saddle Lake Cree Nation filmmaker Tanis Redcrow on the set of Querencia. Jesse was also chosen for a special program with the ISO and the DGC. In 2022, she learned from director Dana Gonzalez while working on the TV show The Handmaid's Tale.

Jesse Anthony was born and grew up in Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, Ontario. She is part of the Onondaga Nation, from the Beaver clan. Today, Jesse lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia.
