Jessy Matador's Journey
Jessy Matador started his career as a dancer in 2001. He joined a group called Les Cœurs Brisés, which means "The Broken Hearts." With this group, he traveled and performed in many countries. These included the United States, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Canada.
In 2005, Jessy decided to create his own music group. He named it "La Sélésao." The group included members like Dr. Love, Linho, and Benkoff. They later signed with a record label called Wagram Records in 2008.
First Songs and Album
La Sélésao released their first song, "Décalé Gwada," in June 2008. It quickly became a popular hit that summer. Later that year, in November 2008, the group released their first album. It was called Afrikan New Style.
This album mixed different music styles. It combined African and Caribbean sounds with more modern city music. You could hear influences from zouk, dancehall, reggae, and hip hop. It also included Coupé-Décalé, ndombolo, and kuduro styles. In December 2008, they released another song called "Mini Kawoulé."
Representing France at Eurovision
On February 19, 2010, a big announcement was made. Jessy Matador was chosen to represent France! The Eurovision Song Contest is a huge international music competition. Countries from Europe and beyond compete with original songs.
The contest was held in Oslo, Norway, on May 29, 2010. Jessy performed his song "Allez Ola Olé" for millions of viewers. He finished in 12th place in the final. This was one of France's best results in the 2000s.
