Jesús M. Prieto, born on April 6, 1944, in Oviedo, Spain, is a famous Spanish doctor and scientist. He is currently an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Navarra. This means he is retired but still highly respected and involved in his field.

About Dr. Prieto's Life

Dr. Prieto studied medicine at the University of Valladolid. He earned his medical degree in 1967 and his PhD in 1969. He became an expert in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, which deals with the digestive system. He also specialized in Hepatology, the study of the liver, in London, England, from 1972 to 1973.

In 1976, he became a professor at the University of Oviedo. The next year, in 1977, he became a full Professor of Medicine at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He also directed the Department of Medicine at the General Hospital of Galicia. In 1979, he moved to the University of Navarra. There, he became a full Professor of Medicine and led the Department of Medicine at the Clinic University of Navarra. He also directed the Division of Hepatology and Gene Therapy at CIMA, a center for medical research.

Since 2014, Dr. Prieto has been an Emeritus Professor at the University of Navarra. He continues to lead a laboratory at CIMA. This lab focuses on researching gene therapy for cancer. It also helps train young scientists from Africa.
