James Arnold Bradford (born October 18, 1933 – died November 16, 2020) was an important person in South Dakota. He was a rancher and a teacher. He also became a politician.
Jim Bradford was a member of the Democratic Party. He served in the South Dakota Senate from 2009 to 2017. He represented the 27th district. Before that, he was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives. He was a member of the Oglala Sioux tribe.

Jim Bradford worked as a public school teacher for many years. He lived on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. This is where he also owned and managed a ranch.

Jim Bradford started his political career as a Democrat. He was first elected to the state House of Representatives.
In 2008, something interesting happened. He decided to change his political party. He joined the Republican Party. This was after he lost a primary election to Theresa Two Bulls, who was also a Democrat.
After switching parties, no Republican ran against him. He won the election for the state senate. He beat Theresa Two Bulls by a small number of votes (277 votes). About a year after winning his election, Jim Bradford switched back to the Democratic Party. He continued to serve the people of South Dakota.
