Jim Holt had an interesting path to becoming a professional baseball player. He showed great skill and played for two major league teams.
Early Days and Big League Start
Jim Holt graduated from Graham High School (North Carolina). In 1965, the Kansas City Athletics baseball team chose him in the draft. However, he also served his country, which meant he started his professional baseball career a little later.
He made his first appearance in a major league game on April 17, 1968. His last game was on October 3, 1976.
Playing for the Twins and Athletics
In 1967, Jim Holt played in the Arizona Instructional League. He was amazing, hitting for a .367 batting average. Some famous players like Vida Blue, Bert Campaneris, Rollie Fingers, and Reggie Jackson were on his team.
Jim played for the Minnesota Twins from 1968 to 1974. Then, he joined the Oakland Athletics and played with them from 1974 to 1976.
World Series Champion
Jim Holt was part of the 1974 World Series champion Oakland Athletics team. This was a huge achievement for him!
In Game Two of the World Series, he hit a single as a pinch-hitter. In Game Four, he came in as a pinch-hitter again and drove in two runs with another single. The Athletics won that game and later the World Series.
