James "Jim" Marsh (born April 26, 1946 – died August 12, 2019) was an American professional basketball player. He played for one season in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The NBA is the top basketball league in North America.
Marsh played college basketball at the University of Southern California. Later, he played professionally for the Portland Trail Blazers.
Playing Career
Jim Marsh was born in 1946. He played basketball in college at the University of Southern California. After college, he was chosen by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1968 NBA draft. This meant they wanted him to play for their team.
However, Jim Marsh played his only NBA season with the Portland Trail Blazers. He was a small forward. He played for the Trail Blazers during the 1971–1972 season.
Life After Playing Basketball
After his time as a player, Jim Marsh became a coach. He worked as an assistant coach at the University of Utah. This was a college basketball team.
Later, Marsh started a new career as a broadcaster. He worked for the Seattle SuperSonics. This was the same team that had drafted him earlier. He was a "color commentator" for their TV broadcasts. A color commentator helps explain the game. They share insights and opinions during the broadcast. Jim Marsh did this for 12 years.
Later Life and Legacy
In 2004, Jim Marsh was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. This is a condition that affects movement. Even with this, he continued to be involved in basketball.
He lived in Kirkland, Washington. There, he coached an AAU basketball team. AAU teams help young athletes develop their skills. Jim Marsh passed away on August 12, 2019. He had two adult daughters.
