The Story of Jimmy's Pies
How It All Started
Jimmy Kirkpatrick began his business in 1960. He called it "Jimmy's Bakery" at first. Jimmy moved to Roxburgh with his family from Invercargill to start this new adventure.
Changes Over Time
After Jimmy passed away in 1976, his son Dennis and daughter-in-law Jean took over the bakery. They continued to make the popular pies.
In November 2017, there was a flood in Roxburgh. This caused problems with the town's water supply. The bakery had to stop making pies for a few days. Luckily, the bakery itself was safe because it had been made flood-proof after an earlier flood in 1978.
Important Ingredient Update
In October 2018, a customer had a problem after eating a pie. It turned out that an ingredient called MSG was in the pie, but it wasn't listed on the package. Jimmy's Pies found out their beef stock supplier had added MSG without telling them. The company quickly fixed this issue to make sure all ingredients were listed correctly.
Where to Buy the Pies
In November 2018, Jimmy's Pies decided to sell most of their products only at their store in Roxburgh. However, their most popular pies, like mince pies and mince and cheese pies, are still sold in other places.
Winning Awards
In May 2020, Jimmy's Pies won a special award called Canstar Blue's Most Satisfied Customers Award. They were chosen as the best pie brand in New Zealand, beating twelve other companies!
