Jimmy's Pies is a famous New Zealand company. It is based in a town called Roxburgh. Since 1960, they have been making delicious meat pies. It's a family business! Jimmy Kirkpatrick started it, and now his son Dennis runs the company.
The Story of Jimmy's Pies
Jimmy Kirkpatrick began his business in 1960. He called it "Jimmy's Bakery" at first. Jimmy moved to Roxburgh from Invercargill with his family. After Jimmy passed away in 1976, his son Dennis and daughter-in-law Jean took over the bakery.
Facing Challenges and Changes
In November 2017, Roxburgh had some flooding. This caused problems with the town's water supply. Luckily, the bakery itself was not badly hurt. They had made it flood-proof after an earlier flood in 1978.
In October 2018, Jimmy's Pies had a small issue with their ingredients. Their beef stock supplier changed their recipe. They added monosodium glutamate (MSG) without telling Jimmy's Pies. MSG is a common flavor enhancer. Because of this, MSG was not listed on the pie packaging. Jimmy's Pies quickly fixed the labels to show all ingredients.
Later in November 2018, Jimmy's Pies made a big change. They decided to sell most of their pies only at their Roxburgh store. However, their most popular pies, like mince pies and mince and cheese pies, are still sold in other places.
Winning Awards
In May 2020, Jimmy's Pies won a special award. They received Canstar Blue's Most Satisfied Customers Award. This means their customers were very happy with their pies! They beat twelve other pie brands in New Zealand to win this honor.
