James Jones (born January 1, 1945) is a famous American former professional basketball player. He was an amazing player in the American Basketball Association (ABA). Jimmy, as he was often called, was chosen as an All-Star six times! This was a big deal because only three other players achieved this in the ABA's nine-year history.

Jimmy Jones was born in Tallulah, Louisiana. He was a tall guard, standing 6 feet 4 inches. He played college basketball at Grambling State University.

Jimmy Jones' Basketball Journey

Jimmy Jones started his professional basketball adventure in 1967. He was picked by two different leagues that year. The National Basketball Association (NBA) team, the Baltimore Bullets, drafted him. At the same time, the New Orleans Buccaneers from the rival ABA also chose him in their draft.

Since he was a top pick in the ABA, Jimmy decided to play there first. He spent seven exciting seasons in the ABA. He played for the New Orleans Buccaneers, which later became the Memphis Pros. Then, he moved to the Utah Stars. During his time in the ABA, Jimmy was one of the league's best players. He scored about 19.2 points, made 5.1 assists, and grabbed 4.9 rebounds per game.

In 1974, Jimmy finally joined the Bullets team, which was then called the Washington Bullets. He played three more seasons there before he retired from basketball in 1977.

Amazing Achievements

Jimmy Jones had a fantastic career filled with many awards. He was a six-time ABA All-Star, showing how consistently great he was. This means he was chosen to play in the special All-Star game six times!

He was also named to the All-ABA First Team three times. This is a huge honor, as it means he was considered one of the very best players in the entire league for those seasons. When he was a new player, he was also chosen for the ABA All-Rookie First Team in 1968. This showed everyone he was going to be a star right from the start.

Jimmy Jones is also part of the ABA All-Time Team. This special team includes the greatest players from the ABA's history.
