Jimtown is a small, unincorporated community located in Baker County, Oregon, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

Discovering Jimtown

Jimtown is a quiet spot in eastern Oregon. It's known for its history and how it got its unique name.

Where is Jimtown Located?

You can find Jimtown about two miles northwest of a town called Halfway. It sits right along Oregon Route 413, which is a road that connects different areas. The community is nestled in Baker County, which is part of the beautiful state of Oregon.

How Jimtown Got Its Name

Jimtown wasn't always called Jimtown! When it first started, it was named Langrell. This name honored an early resident, Richard T. Langrell. He owned a sawmill and opened a store in the community in 1904.

In 1910, Mr. Langrell sold his store to James H. Chandler. James ran the store for six years, until 1916. People started calling the place "Jimtown" because of James H. Chandler, who was known as "Jim." The name "Jimtown" became the official name for the community in 1987, after a decision by the United States Board on Geographic Names.
