What is Jinxed About?
The Murphy Family Curse
The movie tells the story of the Murphy family. They have been cursed with really bad luck for 100 years! This curse started way back in 1914. A young man named Tommy Murphy (Burkely Duffield) was the luckiest person in his town. He was excited to dance with Caitlin O'Leary (Andrea Brooks). But then, another girl named Violet (Jessa Danielson) kissed Tommy. This made Caitlin upset.
Tommy tried to stop Caitlin from leaving. But he accidentally ripped her dress. This embarrassed her a lot. Caitlin was a witch, and she got very angry. She put a curse on Tommy and all his future family members. This curse gave them incredibly bad luck. Tommy tried to find Caitlin to fix things. But she had already married someone else.
Meg's Mission to Break the Curse
One hundred years later, we meet Meg Murphy (Ciara Bravo). She is Tommy's great-great-granddaughter. Meg is tired of her family's bad luck. She wants to end the curse for good.
Meg and her younger brother, Charlie (Jacob Bertrand), find Tommy's old diary. The diary says that to break the curse, they need to give Tommy's "lucky coin" to one of Caitlin's family members. They manage to sneak the lucky coin out of a museum.
Meg then realizes that Ivy Murray (Elena Kampouris) is a descendant of Caitlin. Ivy is a mean girl at school who often picks on Meg. Meg also finds out that her crush, Brett (Jack Griffo), is Caitlin's descendant too. He is Ivy's cousin.
The Lucky Coin's Secret
At a school dance, Meg gives the lucky coin to Brett. She hopes this will finally break her family's curse. But Charlie reads another part of Tommy's diary. He discovers that the coin doesn't break the curse. Instead, it just moves the bad luck to Brett's family!
Meg is shocked when she finds out. She rushes to Brett's house. She sees his house being messed up by an angry monkey! Ivy answers the door. She gets mad when she learns Meg caused the bad luck.
Meg explains that she didn't mean for this to happen. Ivy then understands that Meg isn't to blame. Ivy also realizes that she was only mean to Meg because Meg's bad luck often affected her too. Meg and Ivy decide to work together.
At the closing ceremony, Brett gives the coin back to Meg. Meg almost falls from a flag tower. But Brett saves her and then they kiss.
Life After the Curse
After all the excitement, Meg and Ivy become best friends. Meg and Brett start dating. Meg goes to science camp. There, she accidentally invents a potion that grows hair!
Meg puts Tommy's diary and the coin back. She reads the last part of the diary. Tommy wrote that even with bad luck, he met his wonderful wife at the hospital. He threw his coin into a fountain, which caused a flood. But he believed that having a good attitude was what really mattered.
At the end of the movie, Meg and her family go on vacation. They visit the Grand Canyon. They still cause some funny bad luck, with Ivy and Brett running away, but everyone is laughing.
