Jiquilpan is a town and a municipality (which is like a county or district) in the Mexican state of Michoacán. Its full name is Jiquilpan de Juárez. The name Jiquilpan comes from a Náhuatl word. It means "place of tint plants." These plants were used to make dyes.
Jiquilpan is sometimes called "Ciudad de las Jacarandas." This means "City of Jacarandas." Jacaranda trees have beautiful purple flowers.
