This was the very first movie directed by Robert Bangura.

Jo Hodges was born in 1959 in a city called Leicester, in England. She grew up to become a successful writer.

One of her most famous works was The Girl with Brains in Her Feet. It started as a film script in 1997. Later, in 1998, she turned it into a novel. The story is about a young girl named Jack. She is from Leicester and dreams of becoming a professional runner. The book shows her journey as she grows up and chases her dreams. This type of story is often called a coming-of-age tale.

Inspiring Others

Jo Hodges believed in encouraging young people, especially those who might feel unsure about their talents. In 2001, she was featured in a book called Portraits of Black Achievement. She shared an important message for young people who wanted to become writers.

She said that at first, she was scared to write. She thought you had to be super smart and have a perfect education. But she decided to try anyway and realized she wasn't "stupid" at all. Jo Hodges felt that many young Black people hold themselves back. She wanted them to know there's no need to be shy if you are talented. Her message was simple: go ahead and show the world what you can do!

Her Career in Advertising and Teaching

Before becoming a full-time teacher, Jo Hodges worked in the advertising world. She created ads for big companies like DMB&B and Ogilvy & Mather.

In 2002, she started teaching about advertising at the University of the Arts London. She loved sharing her knowledge with students. In 2007, she moved to the London College of Communication. There, she became a leader for the advertising course. She later became the Creative Practice Director for Communications and Media. This meant she helped guide students in creative projects.

Jo Hodges passed away on July 25, 2017, when she was 58 years old. She had been ill for some time.
