Joan Brull i Vinyoles (born January 25, 1863, in Barcelona; died February 3, 1912, in Barcelona) was a Spanish painter from Catalonia. He was an important artist in the late 1800s. Joan Brull was known for his Symbolist paintings, along with other artists like Adrià Gual and Josep Maria Tamburini.

A Painter's Life: Joan Brull's Journey
Joan Brull was born in Barcelona, Spain. He studied art at the Escola de la Llotja in Barcelona. Later, he continued his art studies in Paris, France.
After his studies, Brull worked as an art critic. He wrote about art for a magazine called Joventut. He was also part of many artistic groups of his time. These included places like Els Quatre Gats and the Real Círculo Artístico de Barcelona. He was good friends with famous artists like Ramon Casas and Santiago Rusiñol.
In 1896, Joan Brull won a big award. He took first place at the International Exposition of Barcelona. He won with his painting called Ensomni.
Exhibitions and Art Style
Over the years, Joan Brull's art has been shown in special exhibitions. In 2009, the Caixa Foundation Girona held a large show. It featured more than 40 of his artworks. Two other solo exhibitions were also held for him in 1924 and 1959.
Brull's early paintings looked very realistic. But later in his career, he changed his style. He started focusing on Symbolism. This style often showed characters from myths, especially women. He also painted many portraits. Most of these were of children and people in need from Barcelona in the late 1800s.
