Joanna Atkins (born January 31, 1989) is an American sprinter. She is known for running very fast, especially in the 400 meter dash. Joanna also holds an American record in track and field. She went to Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

College Track Star

Joanna Atkins ran track for the Auburn Tigers team while in college. Her coach there was Henry Rolle. In 2009, she won first place at a big college competition called the NCAA Women's Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She won in the 400-meter dash. That same year, she also became the Southeastern Conference champion for the 400-meter dash.

International Competitions

Joanna Atkins has competed for the United States in many international track events. At the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, she finished in fourth place. This strong finish helped her join the US team for the 4x400 meter relay race at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics.

Joanna has won several gold medals for the United States in relay races:

  • In 2013, she won gold at the World Outdoor Championships in Moscow for the 4x400 meter relay.
  • In 2014, she won gold at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot for the 4x400 meter relay.
  • Also in 2014, she won gold at the World Relay Championships in Nassau for the 4x400 meter relay.
  • In 2018, she won gold at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham for the 4x400 meter relay.
  • In 2019, she won gold at the World Relay Championships in Yokohama for the mixed 4x400 meter relay.
