Joanne Peh's Journey to Stardom
Joanne Peh started her career after winning two titles, Miss Elegant and Miss Personality, in the Miss Singapore Universe contest in 2002. Soon after, she joined MediaCorp, a big media company. Even while studying at university, she quickly became popular. In 2004, she won the "Most Popular Newcomer" award and was named one of the "Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes" at the Star Awards. These awards celebrate the best TV personalities in Singapore.
Early Life and Education
Joanne went to Temasek Secondary School, where she was the head prefect, meaning she was a student leader. She also studied at Victoria Junior College. Later, she earned a degree in mass communications from Nanyang Technological University. After finishing her studies, she became a full-time actress.
Acting Career Highlights
Joanne has received great reviews for her acting in many TV shows. Some of her popular dramas include Like Father, Like Daughter, The Golden Path, and The Little Nyonya. Her role as Yuzhu in The Little Nyonya was especially praised. She played a kind but unlucky girl, and her performance won her the "Best Actress" award at the Star Awards in 2009.
Joanne also started acting in movies in 2004 with Jack Neo's film The Best Bet. In 2011, she showed her acting skills in the successful movie It's A Great Great World.
Hosting and Awards
Joanne is good at speaking both English and Chinese. She is known for being smart and clear when she talks. This made her a great host for many variety shows and special events, like President's Star Charity 2005. She won the "Best Info-ed Programme Host Award" at the Star Awards 2011 for her work on The Activist Journey. This was a big achievement, as she won against very experienced hosts.
She won her second "Best Actress" award at the Star Awards 2012. This was for her role as a spoiled girl looking for love in A Tale of 2 Cities. Only one other actress from MediaCorp, Rui En, has achieved this same feat. After winning, many reporters asked her how she felt. Joanne later shared that she cried with happiness after everyone had left.
In 2015, Joanne was nominated for two awards at the Star Awards 2015. She was nominated for "Best Actress" for C.L.I.F. 3 and won "Best Supporting Actress" for The Journey: Tumultuous Times. She is also a popular choice for commercials and has worked with big brands like Lux and Jetstar.
