Joseph H. Conley, Jr. (born March 3, 1928 – died July 7, 2013) was an American actor and writer. He is best known for playing the friendly store owner, Ike Godsey, on the popular TV show The Waltons.
Early Life and Acting Start
Joe Conley was born in Buffalo, New York on March 3, 1928. He grew up there before starting his acting career. He began acting in the 1950s. For many years, he took on small roles in different television shows.
Becoming Ike Godsey
Joe Conley became famous for his role as Ike Godsey on The Waltons. This TV show was set in rural Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II. Ike Godsey ran the general store and gas station in the small town of Waltons Mountain. He was a kind and helpful character. He was also married to Corabeth Godsey, played by Ronnie Claire Edwards. Conley played Ike Godsey for the entire run of the show, from 1972 to 1981. He also appeared in the reunion movies that followed.
Personal Life and Later Years
Joe Conley was married to Louise Ann Teechen. They were together from 1969 until his death in 2013. They had four children. After The Waltons, Conley continued to act occasionally. His last role was in 2002. Joe Conley passed away on July 7, 2013, in Newbury Park, California. He was 85 years old. He died due to complications from dementia.
