Joe Savikataaq (born around 1960) is a Canadian politician. He was the leader, or Premier, of Nunavut from 2018 to 2021. He was chosen for this important role by the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut.

Joe Savikataaq's Political Journey
Joe Savikataaq first became a member of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut (MLA) in 2013. He represents the area called Arviat South. He was chosen again by voters in 2017.
Roles in Government
Before becoming Premier, Savikataaq held many important jobs. He was the Deputy Premier of Nunavut. He also served as the Minister for Economic Development and Transportation. This means he helped with jobs, businesses, and how people travel. He was also the Minister for Community and Government Services. This role helps local towns and government operations.
Becoming Premier
Joe Savikataaq was chosen as Premier on June 14, 2018. This happened after the previous Premier, Paul Quassa, lost a vote of confidence. Savikataaq served as Premier until November 2021. In the 2021 election, he was re-elected as an MLA. However, P.J. Akeeagok was chosen to be the new Premier.
