Joel Bolomboy (born January 28, 1994) is a professional basketball player. He was born in Ukraine and later became a Russian citizen in 2018. Joel plays for Crvena zvezda, a team in Serbia. He plays in the Serbian KLS, the ABA League, and the EuroLeague. Before becoming a pro, he played college basketball for the Weber State Wildcats. In 2016, he was named the Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

Early Life and College Basketball
Joel Bolomboy was born in Donetsk, Ukraine. His father is from Congo and his mother is Russian. When Joel was very young, less than three years old, his family moved to Fort Worth, Texas in the United States. Joel has said he doesn't remember anything about Ukraine because he moved so early.
He attended Keller Central High School in Fort Worth. Even though bigger schools like Clemson and Florida State were interested, he chose to play college basketball at Weber State.
During his time at Weber State, Joel became a record-holder. He grabbed more rebounds than any other player in Weber State history and in the entire Big Sky Conference.
In the 2015–16 season, Joel really improved his scoring. He averaged 17.9 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. Because of his amazing performance, he was named to the first-team All-Big Sky Conference. He also won the awards for the league's Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
Professional Basketball Career
Playing for the Utah Jazz (2016–2017)
Joel Bolomboy was chosen by the Utah Jazz in the 2016 NBA draft on June 23, 2016. He was the 52nd player picked overall. He officially signed with the Jazz on August 19, 2016.
He played his first NBA game on October 30, 2016. During his first season, Joel also spent time playing for the Salt Lake City Stars. This team is the Utah Jazz's affiliate in the D-League. With the Stars, he averaged 16.5 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. The Jazz later decided to release him from the team on October 16, 2017.
Time with the Milwaukee Bucks (2017–2018)
On October 20, 2017, Joel signed a special type of contract called a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. This meant he would split his playing time between the Bucks and their G League team, the Wisconsin Herd. However, he was released by the Bucks on January 7, 2018.
Back with the Wisconsin Herd (2018)
After leaving the Bucks, Joel re-signed with the Wisconsin Herd on January 10, 2018, to continue playing in the G League.
Playing in Russia with CSKA Moscow (2018–2022)
On August 8, 2018, Joel Bolomboy signed a three-year contract with CSKA Moscow, a top team in the VTB United League in Russia. He signed another two-year contract extension with them on March 2, 2020.
On February 28, 2022, Joel left CSKA Moscow for personal reasons.
Moving to Olympiacos (2022–2023)
On July 6, 2022, Joel signed a one-year deal with Olympiacos, a team in Greece that also plays in the Euroleague. He played in 35 EuroLeague games, averaging 3.8 points and 3 rebounds. In 32 domestic games in Greece, he averaged 5.6 points and 4.9 rebounds. He was released from the Greek club on July 5, 2023.
Joining Crvena zvezda (2023–present)
On July 14, 2023, Joel Bolomboy signed a one-year contract with Crvena zvezda in Serbia. He currently plays for them in the Serbian KLS, the Adriatic League, and the EuroLeague.
International Career
Joel Bolomboy was invited to try out for the Ukraine national basketball team in 2014. He got injured during practice and couldn't play in any games. He was also on the preliminary roster for EuroBasket 2017 but did not make the final team.
In November 2018, Joel became a Russian citizen. He then played for the Russia national basketball team in qualifiers for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup and EuroBasket 2022. He missed the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup because of an injury.
