Joel Jalil Julio Mejia was born on January 18, 1985, in Montería, Colombia. He is a professional Colombian boxer. He is known for fighting in the junior middleweight division. Early in his career, he was recognized as a very promising boxer. In 2005, ESPN.com even named him their Boxing Prospect of the Year. He also appeared in Ring Magazine and on the TV show ShoBox, which features rising boxing stars.

Joel Julio's Boxing Journey

Joel Julio started his professional boxing career with many wins. His first loss happened on June 24, 2006, against Puerto Rican boxer Carlos Quintana. After this, Joel Julio moved up to the Junior Middleweight division. He then won five fights in a row! These wins included a close decision against Cosme Rivera and three impressive knockout wins over Francisco Campos, Thomas Davis, and Mauro Lucero.

Important Fights

On July 11, 2007, Joel Julio fought Cornelius Bundrage, who was famous from the TV show Contender. Joel Julio showed his great skill and accuracy early in the fight. He landed more punches than Bundrage, who was slower. Joel Julio knocked Bundrage down in the third and eighth rounds. He won the fight in the eighth round by a technical knockout (TKO).

Another notable fight was on April 30, 2008, against Ishe Smith. Smith was known for his defensive style, which made it hard for Julio to use his powerful punches. However, Joel Julio still managed to win the fight by a close decision after ten rounds.
