Alfredo Angulo López (born August 11, 1982) is a professional boxer from Mexico. He was known for his strong punches and always moving forward in a fight. People often called him "El Perro", which means "The Dog" in Spanish. From 2009 to 2010, he held an important boxing title called the WBO interim light middleweight championship.

Alfredo Angulo's Boxing Journey

Starting as an Amateur Boxer

Before becoming a professional, Alfredo Angulo was an amateur boxer. He represented Mexico at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. To get to the Olympics, he finished second in a special qualifying tournament held in Tijuana, Mexico.

At the Olympics, Angulo lost his first fight to Andy Lee. However, during his amateur career, he did win a fight against another famous boxer, Timothy Bradley. Alfredo Angulo finished his amateur boxing career with a record of 80 wins and 15 losses.

Turning Professional

Alfredo Angulo started his professional boxing career in Arizona, USA. Many boxing experts believed he would become a world champion in the light middleweight division.

On May 17, 2008, he won against Richard Gutierrez in five rounds. This brought his professional record to 13 wins, with 10 of them by knockout. Later that year, on October 4, 2008, Angulo fought Andrey Tsurkan from Ukraine. Angulo was very aggressive from the start, throwing many punches. He stopped Tsurkan in the 11th round.

Angulo was supposed to fight Ricardo Mayorga in February 2009. But Mayorga decided not to fight at the last minute. So, Angulo fought Cosme Rivera instead and won by knockout in the fifth round.

Becoming a Champion

In November 2009, Alfredo Angulo won an important title. He defeated Harry Joe Yorgey to become the WBO interim light middleweight champion. An "interim" champion is like a temporary champion. Angulo knocked Yorgey down in the second round and then finished him in the third round with powerful punches.

First Title Defense

Angulo successfully defended his WBO interim title on April 24, 2010. He knocked out Joel Julio in the 11th round. Angulo was more aggressive than Julio, constantly attacking with combinations of punches. This was his third knockout win in a row after his only loss at that time.

Winning Another Title

On July 17, 2010, Angulo quickly defeated Joachim Alcine in the first round. With this win, he earned the vacant WBC Continental Americas light middleweight title.

Later Fights

After some time away from the ring, Angulo returned on August 20, 2011. He quickly won his fight against Joseph Gomez in the first round.

Angulo vs. Mora

On April 7, 2018, Angulo fought Sergio Mora. It was a close fight, and Angulo lost by a "split decision." This means two judges thought Mora won, and one judge thought Angulo won.

Angulo vs. Bravo

On April 20, 2019, Angulo fought Evert Bravo. Angulo won this fight by knockout in the second round.

Angulo vs. Quillin

On September 21, 2019, Angulo faced Peter Quillin. Many people thought Quillin would win, but Angulo fought very well. He landed strong punches and won the fight by split decision.

Angulo vs. Hernandez

On August 29, 2020, Angulo fought Vladimir Hernandez. Hernandez was not as well-known, but he surprised everyone by winning the fight by a unanimous decision. This means all the judges thought Hernandez won.
