Joel Romelo (born 3 April 1989) is a former professional rugby league player from Australia. He played for several teams in the NRL. These teams included the Penrith Panthers, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, and Melbourne Storm.
Joel mainly played as a hooker (hooker). He could also play as a five-eighth (five-eighth) or halfback (halfback). Joel has both Indigenous Australian and Italian family roots.

Joel Romelo's Early Life
Joel Romelo was born in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. He started playing junior rugby league for the Nightcliff Dragons. This team was part of the Darwin Rugby League.
When he was 12, Joel moved to Brisbane, Queensland. He went to Redcliffe State High School there. He kept playing junior football for the Redcliffe Dolphins. Later, the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks signed him to their team.
Joel's Rugby League Career
Joel Romelo played for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks' junior team, called Jersey Flegg. After that, he joined the Penrith Panthers.
In 2008, he signed with the Penrith Panthers. He played for their junior team, the Toyota Cup, in 2008 and 2009. During this time, he scored 22 tries in 41 games.
Making His NRL Debut
In February 2009, Joel had a small disagreement with a teammate during training. But he kept working hard. In Round 8 of the 2009 NRL season, Joel played his first NRL game. This was for the Panthers against the Canberra Raiders. He played two more top-level games that year. After the 2009 season, Joel was named in the NYC Team of the Year. This showed he was one of the best young players.
Playing for the Bulldogs
In March 2010, Joel signed a contract with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. He first played in their reserve-grade team, the NSW Cup. Then, in Round 11 of the 2010 NRL season, he made his debut for the Bulldogs. This game was against his old team, the Penrith Panthers.
In the 2012 NRL season, Joel played 13 games for Canterbury. The club had a great year and won the Minor Premiership. This means they finished first in the regular season. However, Joel did not play in the final games of the season. He also wasn't part of the team that lost the 2012 NRL Grand Final to Melbourne.
Later Career
On January 23, 2014, Joel Romelo signed a one-year contract. This was with the Melbourne Storm for the 2014 season. After that, on November 6, 2014, Joel signed with the Queensland Cup team Eastern Suburbs Tigers. He played for them full-time in the 2015 season.
Playing for His Country
Joel Romelo has also played for the Queensland Schoolboys team. This is a special team for young players from Queensland.
In 2011, Joel was chosen to be part of the Italy squad. This team played in games to qualify for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
On January 16, 2013, fans voted Joel into the Indigenous All Stars team. This team plays against the NRL All Stars in a special match each year.
