Johan Alberto Venegas Ulloa (born on November 27, 1988) is a professional football player from Costa Rica. He plays as a winger or forward. Currently, he plays for the Liga FPD club Cartaginés and is also a member of the Costa Rica national team.

Johan Venegas's Club Journey
Early Career in Costa Rica
Johan Venegas began his football journey at Santos de Guápiles. He also had a short time playing for Barrio México in 2011. In 2012, he joined Puntarenas. He had a great season there, scoring 12 goals in 37 games. This strong performance helped him move to a top club, Alajuelense, in 2013.
Playing for Alajuelense
At Alajuelense, Venegas quickly became a key player. In his first year, he played 34 games and scored 4 goals. The next season, he continued to play well, scoring 13 goals in 38 matches. This was his highest number of goals in a single season at that point.
Time in Major League Soccer (MLS)
In July 2015, Johan joined Montreal Impact, a team in Major League Soccer (MLS) in North America. He had impressed them during a big tournament called the 2014–15 CONCACAF Champions League. While with Montreal, he played in 32 league games and scored two goals. He also played in seven playoff games, scoring one goal.
On December 13, 2016, Venegas moved to another MLS team, Minnesota United FC. After playing for Minnesota in 2017, he was loaned to Deportivo Saprissa, a team back in Costa Rica, for the 2018 season. His contract with Minnesota ended after that season.
Return to Costa Rica
Johan Venegas returned to Deportivo Saprissa and played there until 2020. On December 26, 2020, it was announced that he would be rejoining Alajuelense. He played for Alajuelense until 2024, then moved to Guanacasteca for a short period. As of 2025, he plays for Cartaginés.
Playing for Costa Rica
First Games and Goals
Johan Venegas first played for the Costa Rica national team in September 2014. This was during the opening match of the 2014 Copa Centroamericana against Nicaragua. He scored the third goal in that game! In his very next game against Panama, he scored again. This goal was special because it was Costa Rica's 100th goal in all Copa Centroamericana tournaments.
World Cup Experience
In May 2018, Johan was chosen to be part of Costa Rica's 23-player team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia. This is a huge honor for any football player. Overall, he has played more than 80 games for his country and scored 11 goals.
