Early Life and Studies

Johann Gottlieb Walter was born in a city called Königsberg. He went to school there and also in Berlin. He learned a lot from two famous teachers, Johann Friedrich Meckel von Hemsbach and Johann Nathanael Lieberkühn. In 1757, he earned his medical degree from a university in Frankfurt (Oder).

Becoming a Professor

After one of his teachers, Meckel, passed away, Walter became a professor of anatomy in Berlin. This happened in 1774. Being a professor meant he taught students all about the human body.

Walter's Amazing Collection

Walter was very dedicated to his work. He started and built up a huge collection of anatomical samples. These were like special exhibits that showed different parts of the human body. It was a bit like a museum!

A Museum for Everyone

His collection became so important that the state bought it for a lot of money. It cost 100,000 Thaler, which was a huge sum back then. This amazing collection then became the start of the anatomical-zoological museum of the Berlin Academy. It helped many other students and doctors learn about anatomy for years to come.

Walter spent his life studying and teaching about the human body. He passed away in Berlin.
