Every Man His Own Gardener |
John Abercrombie (born 1726, died 2 May 1806) was a Scottish expert in gardening. He helped change how people gardened. He is famous for his book Every Man His Own Gardener. He wrote this book with Thomas Mawe in 1767.
A Life in Gardening
John Abercrombie was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. When he was young, he worked in important gardens. These included the Royal Gardens at Kew and Leicester House. Later, he started his own successful business. He grew and sold plants and vegetables. His business was in Hackney and later at Tottenham, near London. He wrote many books about gardening.
For the last 20 years of his life, Abercrombie was a vegetarian. He enjoyed drinking a lot of tea. He believed tea helped his health. He passed away after an accident.
