John Severn Bednarski, born on July 4, 1952, is a former Canadian ice hockey player. He was a defenceman, which means he played a defensive role on the ice. John played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for two famous teams: the New York Rangers and the Edmonton Oilers. His time in the NHL was from 1974 to 1979.

John Bednarski's Hockey Journey
Early Days and Minor Leagues
John Bednarski was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. He started his hockey career in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). After playing there, he signed with the New York Rangers in 1972. He began playing in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Rochester Americans. The AHL is a league where players often develop their skills before joining the NHL.
Playing in the NHL
John made his big debut in the NHL in 1974 with the New York Rangers. He played a total of 99 games for the Rangers over three seasons. During his time with them, he scored two goals and helped with 18 assists. An assist is when a player helps set up a goal for a teammate.
In 1977, John went back to playing in the minor leagues. Later, he signed with the Edmonton Oilers for their very first year in the NHL. However, he only played one game for the Oilers before returning to the minor leagues.
After His Playing Career
After his time with the Oilers, John signed a contract with the Buffalo Sabres. Even though he signed with them, he did not play any more NHL games.
John Bednarski later became a radio and TV analyst for the Rochester Americans. He worked in this role for many years, helping fans understand the game. He stopped being an analyst before the 2005–06 hockey season. In 2007, John Bednarski was honored for his contributions to the team. He was inducted into the Rochester Americans Hall of Fame.
