Early Life and Education
John Blackburne was born in 1754. He was the oldest son of Thomas Blackburne, who owned Hale Hall near Liverpool. John received a good education at two famous places. He first attended Harrow School, which is a well-known boarding school. After that, he went to Queen's College, Oxford, one of the oldest universities in the world.
When his father passed away in 1768, John took over the family home, Hale Hall. Later, in 1786, he also inherited another important property, Orford Hall, Warrington, from his grandfather, who was also named John Blackburne.
Public Service and Political Career
John Blackburne held several important positions. In 1781, he was chosen to be the High Sheriff of Lancashire. This was a very important role for keeping law and order in the county.
In 1784, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Lancashire. An MP is someone who represents their local area in the country's government, helping to make laws. John Blackburne held this position for a very long time, serving in Parliament until 1830.
While in Parliament, he was known as an "Independent." This meant he didn't always follow a strict party line. However, he generally supported the ideas of William Pitt the Younger, who was a very influential Prime Minister at the time.

In 1794, John Blackburne was recognized for his contributions and knowledge. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society. The Royal Society is a very old and respected group of scientists and thinkers in the United Kingdom. Being a Fellow means you are considered an expert in your field.
Family Life
John Blackburne married Anne Rodbard. She was the daughter of Samuel Rodbard from a place called Evercreech in Somerset. Together, John and Anne had a large family. They had three sons and four daughters. John Blackburne passed away in 1833.
