John Boys (Parliamentarian) facts for kids
John Boys (born around 1607 – died October 21, 1678) was an English politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, at different times between 1645 and 1656.
Early Life and Education
John Boys was born in a place called Betteshanger in Kent, England. His father was Edward Boys.
John went to school in Canterbury and also at Winchester. Later, when he was about 16, he went to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge in 1623. He also studied law at Gray's Inn starting in 1626. These were important places for learning during his time.
A Career in Politics
In 1645, John Boys became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Kent. An MP is someone chosen to represent their area in the government. He was part of a government group called the Long Parliament.
He was chosen again as an MP for Kent in 1654. This was for the First Protectorate Parliament. He was elected one more time in 1656 for the Second Protectorate Parliament. These were different periods when England had different types of government.
Later Life
John Boys passed away in 1678. There is a special monument built for him in Betteshanger, where he was born.
