Sir John Brocket (born around 1540 – died October 2, 1598) lived at Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire, England. He was an important English politician during his time.

Sir John Brocket's Life and Career

John Brocket was the son of another Sir John Brocket. He went to Trinity College, Cambridge for his education.

When his father passed away in 1558, John took over the family estate. He became the High Sheriff of Essex and Hertfordshire in 1566. A High Sheriff was a very important local official, like a chief law enforcement officer.

In 1572, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for Hertfordshire. This meant he helped make laws for the country. He was given the special title of "Sir" (knighted) in 1577.

Sir John's Family

Sir John Brocket was married two times. His first wife was Helen, the daughter of Sir Robert Lytton from Knebworth. They had five daughters together.

His second wife was Elizabeth, who was the daughter of Roger Moore. Elizabeth was also the widow of Gabriel Fowler. Sir John and Elizabeth had one more daughter.

One of his daughters, Frances Brockett, married Dudley North, 3rd Baron North in 1599. Sir John was also the father-in-law to Sir John Cutts, who was also a Member of Parliament.
