John Castell facts for kids

John Castell, also known as John Castle, was an important person at University College, Oxford and later became the head of the entire University of Oxford. He lived from about 1380 to 1426.

Castell was a member of University College. He became the head of the College around 1408. During his time as head, he faced a big challenge. In 1411, there was a disagreement with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Arundel. This disagreement involved Castell and other members of the College. Even though it was a difficult time, Castell managed to stay as the head of the College until 1420.

In 1420, John Castell was chosen to work for the King. The next year, in 1421, he became the Chancellor of Oxford University. This meant he was the main leader of the whole university. He held this important job until 1426.
