John Catesby started his legal career by becoming a Serjeant-at-Law in 1463. This allowed him to work in a major court called the Court of Common Pleas. This court handled many important legal cases for everyday people.
He became a King's Serjeant on April 18, 1469, which was a big step up in his career. Later, on November 20, 1481, he was made the Third Justice of the Court of Common Pleas. This meant he was one of the main judges in that court.
John Catesby served as a judge for a very long time. He worked continuously from the time of King Edward IV all the way to the time of King Henry VII. When another judge, Richard Neele, passed away in 1486, John Catesby became the Second Justice of the Common Pleas. However, he also passed away later that same year.
