The Life of John Engleheart
John Engleheart was related to another well-known miniature painter, George Engleheart. George was John's uncle. When John was just 14 years old, he began learning art in his uncle's studio.
John started showing his paintings at the Royal Academy in 1801. This was a very important art exhibition in London. Over his career, he displayed an impressive 157 artworks there!
John was a very popular painter during his time. He earned a good living from his art. However, when he was 44 years old, his health became poor. Because of this, he had to stop painting professionally. He later lived in Tunbridge Wells for several years. John Engleheart passed away there in 1862.
