In 1999, Congressman John Dingell held a big meeting called the Downriver Summit. From this meeting, the Downriver Linked Greenways were born! These greenways are a network of trails. They connect different towns and parks in the Downriver area. The goal is to create eco-friendly paths for people. Bikers, hikers, and anyone who loves being outdoors can enjoy them.

The Downriver Delta Greenway Map

In 2008, a special map was made for part of the greenways. It's called the Downriver Delta Greenway map. This map connects the cities of Detroit, Ecorse, River Rouge, and Lincoln Park. These cities are all linked by the North-South Connector trail. John D. Dingell Park is an important spot on this map. Because Ecorse is a partner city, the park received money for upgrades in 2005.

Park Improvements

The park got some cool new features during its renovations. Workers replaced the boardwalk and the sidewalk next to it. They also added a lovely gazebo. Other landscaping work made the park even nicer. These improvements cost about one million dollars.
