John Baron Dutton, 2nd Baron Sherborne (born January 24, 1779 – died October 18, 1862) was an important British nobleman. He held the title of Baron Sherborne.

About John Dutton

John Dutton was the son of James Dutton, 1st Baron Sherborne. His mother was Elizabeth Coke. The family lived in Sherborne, Gloucestershire.

During his lifetime, a big change happened in Britain. The government passed the Slavery Abolition Act 1833. This law ended slavery in most British lands. After this, the government paid money to people who had owned enslaved people. This was done through the Slave Compensation Act 1837.

Records show that John Dutton received a payment. This was because he had owned 464 enslaved people in Jamaica. The British government borrowed a large sum of money to make these payments. British taxpayers eventually paid back this loan.

Lord Sherborne married Mary Legge on August 11, 1803. She was the daughter of Henry Bilson-Legge, 2nd Baron Stawell.
