John Edward "Jack" Cunningham III was born on March 27, 1931. He is an American former politician. He was a member of the Republican Party. He served as a U.S. Representative for Washington's seventh district. His term in Congress was from 1977 to 1979.
Early Political Career
Before joining the U.S. House of Representatives, John Cunningham served in Washington state politics. He was a member of the Washington House of Representatives. He served there from 1973 to 1975. After that, he became a member of the Washington State Senate. He served in the State Senate from 1975 to 1977.
Cunningham also served in the United States Air Force Reserve. This was in 1953 and 1954. He lived in Des Moines, Washington.
Serving in Congress
John Cunningham was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in a special election. This happened when the previous representative, Brock Adams, left his position. Adams became the Secretary of Transportation. Cunningham won this election as a Republican.
He served in the U.S. House from May 17, 1977, to January 3, 1979. However, he lost his bid for reelection in 1978.
