John Evans-Freke, 6th Baron Carbery (born 11 November 1765 – died 12 May 1845), was an important Anglo-Irish politician and nobleman. From 1777 to 1807, he was known as Sir John Evans-Freke, 2nd Baronet.

A Life in Politics

John Evans-Freke was the son of Sir John Freke, 1st Baronet. In 1777, when he was just 12 years old, he inherited his father's title, becoming a Baronet. A Baronet is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family.

He became involved in politics at a young age. From 1783 to 1790, he served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Donegal Borough. An MP is a person chosen to represent an area in the government. He worked in the Irish House of Commons, which was like the main law-making body in Ireland at that time.

Later, from 1790 to 1800, he represented another area called Baltimore in the same Irish House of Commons.

Becoming a Baron

On March 4, 1807, John Evans-Freke inherited another important title. He became the 6th Baron Carbery. A Baron is a type of nobleman, a bit like a lord. He inherited this title from his cousin, John Evans, who was the 5th Baron Carbery.

In 1824, he was chosen to be an Irish representative peer in the House of Lords. The House of Lords is part of the Parliament in the United Kingdom. A representative peer was a nobleman elected to speak for the Irish nobility in this important group.

Family and Legacy

On January 25, 1783, John Evans-Freke married his cousin, Lady Catherine Charlotte Gore. She was the third daughter of Arthur Gore, 2nd Earl of Arran.

John Evans-Freke did not have any sons who lived to inherit his titles. So, when he passed away, his nephew, George Evans-Freke, became the 7th Baron Carbery.
