The title of Baron Carbery is a special noble rank in Ireland. It was created in 1715 for a person named George Evans. This title meant he was part of the Peerage of Ireland, a group of important noble families.

The title was set up so it would pass down through the male family members of George Evans's father. His father, also named George Evans, had supported King William and Queen Mary during a big change in how England was ruled, called the Glorious Revolution. He had even been offered a noble title before but said no.

After becoming a Baron, Lord Carbery became a Member of Parliament. He represented a place called Westbury in the British Parliament. When he passed away, his oldest son became the second Baron. This son also served as a Member of Parliament for Westbury.

Over time, the title passed through the family. The sixth Baron Carbery, John Evans-Freke, also held another noble title, a Baronetcy. He was chosen to be an Irish Representative Peer. This meant he represented Ireland's nobility in the House of Lords from 1824 to 1845. His nephew, the eighth Baron, was also an Irish Representative Peer.

As of 2014, the current holder of the title is the twelfth Baron, Michael Evans-Freke. He became Baron in 2012 after his father passed away.

What is a Baronetcy?

A Baronetcy is another type of inherited title, but it's different from a Baron. It's a rank below a Baron but above a Knight. The Baronetcy of Castle Freke was created in 1768.

This title was given to John Evans-Freke. He was the son of Grace, who was the daughter of Sir Ralph Freke. John Evans-Freke's father was the Hon. John Evans, a younger son of the first Baron Carbery.

When the first Baronet died, his son became the second Baronet. In 1807, this second Baronet also became the sixth Baron Carbery. Since then, the two titles, Baron Carbery and the Baronetcy of Castle Freke, have been held by the same person.

As of February 28, 2014, the current Baronet has not officially proven his right to the Baronetcy. Because of this, the Baronetcy is considered "dormant" since 2012. This means it's not officially recognized on the list of Baronets right now.
