John Fleetwood (born 1686, died 1745) was an English politician. He came from Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire. John Fleetwood served in the House of Commons, which is a part of the British Parliament, from 1713 to 1722.
Early Life and Education
John Fleetwood was the oldest living son of William Fleetwood. His family lived at Great Missenden Abbey. His mother was Sarah Bridgwood.
When he was 16 years old, John Fleetwood started studying at Oriel College, Oxford. This happened on March 23, 1702.
Political Career
Before becoming a Member of Parliament, John Fleetwood held an important local role. He was the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire from 1709 to 1710. A High Sheriff was a royal officer responsible for law and order in a county.
In 1713, John Fleetwood was elected to Parliament. He became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Buckinghamshire. This happened during a general election.
He was elected again in 1715 without anyone running against him. This is called being "returned unopposed." He continued to serve as an MP until 1722. After that, he did not seek re-election.
Later Life and Family
John Fleetwood married Elizabeth Seare on January 19, 1724. Elizabeth was the daughter of Richard Seare, who also lived in Great Missenden.
John Fleetwood passed away in August 1745. He and Elizabeth did not have any children. After his death, his sister Mary inherited his property.
