John George Jones was born in Ithaca, New York. This was on September 18, 1849. When he was seven years old, his family moved to Chicago. Jones decided to study law. He became a lawyer on March 24, 1881. He practiced criminal law from his office in Chicago.

Jones was known as "Indignation" Jones. This nickname came from how strongly he fought for civil rights. He was very determined to make things fair for everyone. Later, he was elected as a State Representative. He served the 5th District of Cook County, Illinois.

Fighting for Civil Rights

John George Jones worked to end unfair treatment. He especially fought against discrimination for African Americans. He believed everyone should have equal opportunities. His work helped many people in Illinois.

He served in the Illinois House of Representatives. This was from 1901 to 1903. During his time there, he continued to advocate for important changes. He wanted to make sure laws were fair for all citizens.

Later Life and Legacy

John George Jones passed away on June 7, 1914. He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Chicago. In 2002, a special memorial wall was built for him. This wall honors his important work and his fight for civil rights.
