John Grant's Football Journey
John Grant started his football career at a young age. He joined the youth team of Hibernian, often called Hibs, in 1949. Hibs is a well-known club in Scotland.
Playing for Hibernian
John Grant had to wait a few years to play his first league game for Hibs. This was because the Hibs team was very strong in the early 1950s. They had many talented players.
During this time, Hibs won the Scottish league championship twice. They won in 1951 and again in 1952. They almost won a third time in 1953, but they lost out on something called "goal average." This means another team had scored more goals overall.
Once John Grant started playing regularly in 1954, he became a very important player for Hibs. He played for the team for ten years. He was a reliable defender, helping his team in many matches.
Moving to Raith Rovers
In 1964, a famous manager named Jock Stein decided to let John Grant leave Hibs. This is called being "released" or a "free transfer." John Grant then joined Raith Rovers for one more season. After playing for Raith Rovers, he decided to retire from professional football.
Playing for Scotland
John Grant also had the honor of playing for his country, Scotland. He played two international matches for the Scotland national team. These games were against Northern Ireland and Wales. They were part of a competition called the 1959 British Home Championship.
Besides playing for the main national team, John Grant also represented the Scottish League XI. This was a special team made up of the best players from the Scottish League. He played six games for this team.
